DAO Update!
Shock and horror, I’ve just been informed that not everyone reads the 3,000+ daily messages on the DAO’s Slack! I thought I’d use the occasion to provide a brief update as to where things stand, and aim to provide more of these regular updates in the coming weeks.
First, as most of you will know, the DAO creation phase has ended very successfully and the DAO is now safe and instantiated.
Proposals that involve modifying the DAO’s own parameters as well as non-binding proposals (akin to opinion surveys) can already be voted on. Quite a few Token Holders have started submitting Proposals, while others prefer testing the waters with informal .pdfs describing their plans. This ecosystem is growing — and fast.
The Curator signatories are currently working together with the community, security experts and of course ourselves on a Proposal Framework. This Framework defines a standard codebase for Proposals that improves on the existing governance model while work continues in parallel on a potential upgrade to DAO 1.1.
Once this Proposal Framework is completed, the Curator will be able to start adding third party addresses to the whitelist. In other words, the ball is now firmly in the Curator’s camp, who will be tested to demonstrate a capacity to act as a cohesive group in the coming weeks.
Still on the subject of the Curator, the lack of UI to monitor its actions has led the intrepid DAO community to rise to the challenge and track its activity. There’s an amazing channel on The DAO’s Slack, #dao_observation, that follows the Curator’s actions in real time, but if you prefer a graphical summary, this live Google spreadsheet by Jordi Baylina is the ticket. I even hear bots are already in the works to notify you of Curator’s votes automatically!

As you can see from the screenshot above, two members of the community, Sharmin and Iuri, have already risen to the challenge to become Curator Signatories. This is an exciting development as I was getting a bit worried we had a too much of an exclusive club here!
A Curator Signatory? Moi?
Yes, you! Anyone can apply to be a Curator Signatory. The process is still in flux and the existing Signatories will have to approve you first, of course. Basically you’ll need:
- A public key
- A short text for the curators as to what would make you a good Curator Signatory
- You’ll need to make a transaction from this key to the Curator multisig, to prove that you own this public key
This should be submitted to the curators, who unfortunately do not have a joint email account — the best point of contact is the #curator channel on the DAO’s Slack.
Besides what I listed above, there are currently no other requirements. That’s not to say this won’t change — in fact it probably will — but these changes should be coming from the DAO Token Holder themselves, through a Proposal.
See you next update!
